SYARIKAT Takaful Brunei Darussalam Sdn Bhd is currently promoting its Musafir (Travel) Takaful and Critical Illness Takaful awareness campaign at the 22nd Consumer Fair, which was officially opened by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong yesterday.

According to Takaful Brunei Managing Director Haji Shahrildin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Utama Dato Paduka Haji Jaya, the 22nd Consumer Fair is the appropriate venue to remind the public about effective financial protection planning for themselves and their families.

He said, “Alhamdulillah, in Brunei we are very blessed and fortunate to have plenty of provisions and assistance available. As we become increasingly exposed to various types of risks, we are encouraged to take the necessary steps and practise self-responsibility to protect ourselves and our family members from potential harm.

“An example of such risks is medical-related illnesses which can have a short or long-term financial impact. Living a healthy lifestyle is a positive foundation, while also having Takaful is an added umbrella protection, as an effective financial planning tool to financially assist and lessen the financial burdens should a chronic illness happen to us or our loved ones.”

On the awareness campaign for the Critical Illness Takaful, Haji Shahrildin said, “Providing an awareness platform about the varying types of critical illnesses is a very important knowledge for the public.

“Takaful Brunei echoes the positive efforts by respective organisations and stakeholders in tirelessly promoting preventive measures, and we highly commend these support groups that provide help and information to the public.”

The Critical Illness Takaful is a platform designed to provide coverage against 31 types of illnesses as well as provide financial assistance upon diagnosis of the condition which can range from Alzheimer’s, cancer, kidney failures, stroke and other types of critical illnesses. Participants can receive protection from as young as six months up to 70 years, with the coverage eligible for all residents in Brunei.

Meanwhile, the awareness campaign for Musafir (Travel) Takaful is important for outbound holiday travellers and travelling business executives. The plan provides 24 types of comprehensive benefits ranging from lost baggage to an international emergency assistance hotline.

Haji Shahrildin said, “Among the many benefits that the Musafir (Travel) Takaful provides, I believe the most valuable coverage is the medical expenses coverage of up to BND300,000.

“Should a medical emergency occur while travelling in a foreign country, the costs of the treatment will be fully borne by the individual or the family members.

“But with the Musafir (Travel) Takaful, it is comforting and reassuring to know that we may be compensated for the medical costs.

“Also included is the protection coverage on emergency medical evacuation of up to BND1 million, for emergency medical transportation charges from the foreign country to return home.”

Takaful Brunei is encouraging frequent travellers to take up the annual plan, by contacting the TBA Call Centre at 2244000. The contribution price for an individual annual plan in ASEAN destinations is BND277, while the worldwide coverage is BND402.
