Six students from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) were admitted into Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA)’s student mobility and internship programmes for the 2017-2018 academic session, along with six more from Thailand’s Prince Songkla University (PSU), three from Malaysia’s Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) and four from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) recently.
A press statement from the university said that the students’ admission reflects the growing acceptance of UNISSA as one of the main centres for Islamic studies in the Asean region.
Since its establishment in 2007, UNISSA has made significant strides towards academic excellence and international recognition, particularly through its close links with foreign tertiary institutions and prestigious agencies.
As stated by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in a titah during UNISSA’s fifth graduation ceremony in 2015, “UNISSA is starting to attract international students, especially those from across the region. It is the preferred destination for religious and Arabic Language studies for both short-term and long-term programmes.”
