Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM) and event partner, International Centre of Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) with the support of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) held a press conference today, 1 Safar 1440H corresponding to 10 October 2018, to promote the upcoming Brunei Islamic Capital Market (BICAM) Conference 2018.

Speaking during the press conference were Associate Professor Dr. Mohamed Eskandar Shah Mohd. Rasid, Associate Dean, School of Graduate and Professional Studies, International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF); Siti Nurul Hamizah binti Hj Kula, Manager, Manager, Capital Markets, AMBD; and Julius Hong, Manager, Strategic Communications and Relations, CIBFM.

The press conference highlighted the importance of a capital market and recommended capital market regulators and supervisors, local and international Islamic capital market experts as well as capital market researchers, to attend the conference to learn, discuss and network to enhance Islamic Capital Market in the region.

“The conference looks forward to encourage for new ideas for the development of Islamic capital market from various perspectives. The discussion in the conference will benefit from the sharing of ideas and industrial experience from the attendees,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Eskandar Shah Mohd. Rasid.

The objectives of the conference are to draw interest and attention of various stakeholders about the great potential of Islamic capital market in encouraging the country’s economic growth; to map out ideas on how to facilitate the integration and synergy among key players in Islamic capital market especially in the Association of South East Asian Nation (ASEAN) region; and to encourage participants to instigate innovation in certain potential areas that are aligned with Syariah finance, e.g., green financing, investments that adhere to Environment, Social and Governance principles (ESG), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and financial inclusiveness.

The Brunei Islamic Capital Market (BICAM) Conference 2018 is scheduled to take place at The Rizqun International Hotel on 22 October 2018 until 23rd October 2018.

Carrying the theme “Islamic Capital Market: Its Role in Catalysing Economic Growth”, the two-day conference gathers international experts who will be sharing their knowledge on challenges and opportunities for Islamic capital markets through keynote speeches, moderated presentations and panel discussions.

Among the international experts and speakers invited to the conference are Datuk Zainal Izlan bin Zainal Abidin, Deputy Chief Executive, Securities Commission Malaysia; Ahmad Hafiz Abdul Aziz, Financial Specialist, World Bank (Malaysia); Ibrahim Ali Shoukry, Resident Representative, Islamic Development Bank, Jakarta; and Arshad Ismail, Head Global Banking Business, Maybank Islamic. On top of this, a few speakers from INCEIF are also invited to speak, including their President and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dato’ Dr Azmi Omar.
